When an Enlarged Heart is a Great Thing!
In puritan Thomas Manton's day, the idea of seeking a private room in which to pray was referred to as "going into your closet" to pray (Matt. 6:6). What a great concept...talking to God from a place that is out of the ordinary flow of life traffic, hidden away so as not to be easily disturbed; even going to a place where people would not normally think to find you! As Manton says, private prayer is a necessary duty if we are to live the vital life of the grace of God EVERY DAY! As we “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17), God will enlarge our hearts (expand our compassion) and make us the successful ambassadors of salvation and the peace of Christ that God wants us to be.
