gwot.rocks - God, the World, & Other Things!
Benighted in the Wilderness
Charles Spurgeon wrote a profound statement in his evening devotion for May 7th: "We would not wish to enter heaven till our work is done, and it may be that we are yet ordained to minister light to souls benighted in the wilderness of sin." That word "benighted" sparked my curiosity. It is a power-packed Old-English word that paints a haunting image in you soul. I pray that this podcast moves you to action to in being a light bearer of Jesus Christ to those who are not just people walking through the dark. These are people who have become part of it. When you awaken to the full truth about the condition of lost souls without Christ, it will overwhelm you with compassion to move out of your comfort zone, beyond yourself, into the wilderness of sin to reach those whose instincts, fears, and MEMORIES are TRAINED IN THE NIGHT.

07:55||Season 26, Ep. 543📖 “There is no fear in love; instead, perfect love drives out fear…” — 1 John 4:18, CSB🔊 Episode Overview:In a culture spiraling with chaos—public scandals, corruption, violence, and uncertainty—what does it mean to be fearless in Christ? In this raw and real episode, Kenny shares how a soul detox led to a Holy Spirit recalibration. Rooted in Scripture, he unpacks five powerful truths that will anchor your heart, fire up your faith, and remind you: if you belong to Jesus, you ain’t skeert (scared)!🧭 Main Takeaways:1. Ain’t Skeert→ Perfect love casts out all fear (1 John 4:18, Romans 8:31) 2. You and Whose Army?→ “Legion…because many demons had entered him” (Luke 8:30) Demons speak in plural—God speaks as Lord of Hosts. And He never loses. (Isaiah 8:13)3. Blessed Are Those Who Have Not Seen…→ (John 20:29, Romans 10:17, Psalm 119:105) The Word of God is your only safe footing.4. Drop Anchor→ “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul…” (Hebrews 6:19) Not a call to stall out—but to anchor down in Christ as cultural tides rage. 5. You Are Not Alone→ (Matthew 28:20, Romans 8:26, Exodus 14:14) God is with you! 📝 Final Word:If you're overwhelmed by the news, battling fear, or spiritually adrift—this episode will help you drop anchor and find peace again. You may feel surrounded, but you're not alone. Christ walks with you.DONATE You can help support this podcast by clicking our secure PayPal account. 06:41||Season 25, Ep. 542Reclaiming the Inner Life as Christ’s Sacred RetreatWhat if your soul is more than a battlefield—or a burden to manage—but a garden? In this episode, we step into the rich metaphor drawn from Charles Spurgeon’s 19th-century devotion on Song of Solomon 5:1, where Christ says, “I am come into my garden.” With help from Gordon MacDonald’s Ordering Your Private World, and a haunting lyric from Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, we explore what it means to reclaim the soul as sacred space. You’ll be invited to:Reimagine your inner life as a walled garden—set apart, protected, and tended by graceHear Spurgeon’s challenge to resist worldly encroachmentReflect on MacDonald’s insight: that an untended soul will always be overrun by the worldLong for the Eden your soul remembers—and the Christ who still walks among the liliesThis isn’t about performance—it’s about presence. Not religious activity—but relational intimacy with the One who purchased your soul as His own retreat.📖 “Would that we could see the wall of separation between the church and the world made broader and stronger.” – Spurgeon 🎵 “We’ve got to get ourselves back to the garden.” – CSNY🙏 Takeaway:Your soul is not public property. It is Christ’s garden. And the Gardener is waiting.🔗 Listen at gwot.rocks home page 📤 Share this episode with someone who needs restoration 🌿 Take a walk. Turn off the noise. 06:44||Season 25, Ep. 539📖 Episode Summary:“It is a dangerous thing to refuse to go on knowing.” These words from Oswald Chambers aren’t just poetic—they’re prophetic. In this piercing episode, we unpack the sobering truth that revelation demands a response. To linger in the past, to park at the last place God met you without moving forward, isn’t just disobedience—it’s dangerous.Drawing from Hebrews 10, John 12, James 1, and Philippians 3, this conversation invites you to reflect deeply on the places you may have stalled… and the freedom found in renewed obedience. If you’ve felt stuck spiritually, if you’ve been living off of yesterday’s word without walking in today’s light—this episode is a call to movement, to maturity, and to revival.📝 Key Topics Covered:What Oswald Chambers meant by “refusing to go on knowing”Why lingering in yesterday’s revelation can become spiritual negligenceThe danger of softening conviction to stay comfortableHow truth once revealed makes us responsible for responseThe difference between remembering and respondingA biblical challenge to walk in the light we’ve been given📜 Scriptures Referenced (CSB):Hebrews 10:26–27 — The judgment that follows willful sin after knowing the truthJohn 12:35 — “Walk while you have the light…”James 1:22 — Don’t just hear the word — do itPhilippians 3:13–14 — Forget what’s behind, and reach forward🧩 Reflection Questions:Where have you stopped walking? What truth have you heard but not obeyed? Are you still holding onto an old moment with God… while ignoring His present voice?📌 Challenges:Don’t build a tent around what was — walk in what is. Ask God to show you where you’ve stalled — and respond while the light is still shining.💬 Quote Highlight:“God doesn’t just give revelation — He expects transformation.”DONATE our secure PayPal account. 04:51||Season 25, Ep. 538The announced episode number is incorrect. Episode 537 was injected into the podcast in light of the immediacy of the situation. The following is a rework of the Charles Spurgeon Evening Devotion for June 22which was first published in 1866. The estimated writing year for June 22 devotion would have been Circa 1865 or early 1866. His words written down by candle or lamplight approximately 160 years ago are soberingly impactful and apply to us at this very moment in history. As soon as I read it I knew I had to shine the spotlight on its message.
